ES girls yield eight, then score eight
Last week, Excelsior Springs gave up eight goals in one game in varsity girls soccer – and then scored eight goals in one game.
FALLING TO THE FALCONS
The Tigers yielded eight goals April 2 in their 8-3 road loss to Van Horn, an Independence-based school.
Van Horn quickly built a 3-0 lead, scoring in the second, 10th and 12th minutes. Gracie Carder, a first-year high schooler, scored Excelsior Springs’ first goal in the 16th minute.
The Falcons made it 4-1 with a goal in the 17th minute. Senior Abby Rash cut the margin to 4-2 in the 24th minute by finishing a pass from junior Ava Morton.
Van Horn tagged Excelsior Springs with three more goals before Carder scored an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute. The Falcons scored their final goal in the 36th minute.
Junior goalkeeper Allison Armstrong made 17 saves for the Tigers.
