Excelsior Springs netters sweep Richmond; end skid
Excelsior Springs coach Richie Marsh and his Tigers have their first dual win in varsity boys tennis this season.
The win came Monday, when Excelsior Springs swept Richmond at Maurice Roberts Park in Richmond. It followed four season-opening losses, including three last week – April 8 to visiting St. Joseph Central, April 9 at North Kansas City and April 11 at St. Joseph Benton.
“We got better each match …, but we just weren’t able to finish things off to get a team win,” Marsh said of last week.
Juniors Austin Collins and Theo Stuhrmann accounted for one of the match victories in Excelsior Springs’ 7-2 dual loss to St. Joe Central, claiming the No. 1 doubles match 8-6. Collins nabbed the other win, cruising 8-1 in No. 1 singles.
Like the St. Joe Central dual, Collins and Stuhrmann won their doubles match in the Tigers’ 6-3 loss to Northtown. This time, the score was 8-3. They both claimed their respective singles matches, with Collins winning 8-4 in the No. 1 spot and Stuhrmann…
