Schmidt leads Tigers on the links
Jacob Schmidt was the top Tiger for the Excelsior Springs varsity boys golf team at two tournaments last week.
The junior was the club’s top finisher at a tournament hosted by Oak Park on April 25 at Paradise Pointe Golf Club in Smithville, then at the Richmond Invitational on April 28 at Shirkey Golf Club.
Schmidt shot a career-best 79 place to finish third among 71 players at Paradise Pointe. Sophomore Landon Biermann also cracked the top 15, shooting a 90 to finish in a tie for 12th. In other team results, senior Ryan Gluhm shot a 100, junior Gage Simmons shot a 105 and sophomore Tayvion Kennedy shot a 106.
Schmidt’s 84 helped the Tigers shoot a combined 362 and finish ninth among 21 schools at the Richmond Invitational. He placed 19th among 102 individual finishers.
Biermann was Excelsior Springs’ No. 2 golfer with an 89. He finished in a four-way tie for 38th.
