Airport given go ahead for fueling system

It will cost more than originally expected, but by the end of the year the Excelsior Springs Memorial Airport will once again have fuel for sale.
During a special meeting at noon Monday, the Excelsior Springs Capital Improvements Authority recommended lending an additional $20,000—on top of $20,000 lent earlier—to put a new fuel tank in place and install a credit card reader so pilots can purchase the fuel anytime night or day.

Council OK’s phase II of siren upgrade
If a tornado ripped through Excelsior Springs tonight, much of the community would be hearing a louder and better siren to warn them of the danger.
And by the time winter arrives, virtually the entire community will have the same benefit, now that the Excelsior Springs City Council has voted 5-0 to move forward with phase II of a storm warning siren upgrade project.

Another project done; group hopes to grow
At a busy time of the week, at one of the city’s busiest intersections, a core group of volunteers was definitely keeping busy.
The Excelsior Springs Beautification Committee spent Saturday morning beautifying the island located just in front of the Excelsior Springs Job Corps, at the intersection of St. Louis Avenue, S. Kimball Avenue and Sycamore Street.

ES water is finally on shelves
At long last, consumers on Thursday were finally able to purchase bottles of Excelsior Springs water.
The new Excelsior Springs Bottling Company, located at 526 S. Kansas City Ave., has been on the verge of putting their product on the market for months, and their dream of putting the water that made Excelsior Springs famous back on store shelves is a dream that stretches back much further than that.

Board updated on security, flu
Over the past few years, the Excelsior Springs School District underwent a major safety and security upgrade.
Tom Mayfield, the district’s safety and security coordinator, was pleased to inform the Excelsior Springs Board of Education Monday night that as a new school year begins, the enhanced security features are an unqualified success.

Council looks at golf, airport
It’s been a rough year for golf, and that’s weighing heavily on the minds of Excelsior Springs Golf Course manager Tim Jarman, members of the Excelsior Springs Golf Board and members of the Excelsior Springs City Council.
The golf fund was one of the areas of focus in the council’s budget work session Tuesday evening. Golf play is down everywhere, and when the council approves its 2009-2010 budget later this month they’ll be taking that into account.

City recognized for bus ridership
The city of Excelsior Springs and its Omni Bus service were among six transit properties recognized late last month for increased ridership.
The bus service saw a climb in ridership of 23.41 percent. Also noted and honored at the Missouri Public Transit Association conference, held Aug. 9-12 at the Lake of the Ozarks, were Southeast Missouri State University for an increase in ridership of 24.41 percent, the Macon Area Chamber of Commerce for a climb of 22.10 percent, SERVE Inc. for a ridership increase of 27.02 percent, the City of Mount Vernon Rural Transit Program and Columbia Transit for the highest ridership increases for rural and urban bus services, at 27.14 percent and 114.7 percent respectively.

Ribbon cut at ESH's new MRI building
With the snip of a ribbon late Saturday afternoon, Excelsior Springs Hospital opened a new wing, the latest in a series of additions and expansions at the facility.
The Imaging Center ribbon-cutting was attended by several hospital personnel, including CEO Sally Nance. Also present were members of the hospital board of trustees and the hospital’s foundation board, as well as dozens of area residents eager for a first look at the new wing.
