In wake of fire, victims look to future
Two weeks ago, Meet the Need was fulfilling their mission of helping those who are less fortunate through their assistance programs, their thrift shop and an attached flea market.
Then came last weekend’s devastating fire, which gutted the building the charity recently purchased, destroyed Meet the Need and a neighboring kennel/groomer and damaged two other businesses in the same building.

Before cutting the ribbon on the new park, which is located on the southwest corner of Tiger Drive and Wornall Road, Excelsior Springs Parks & Recreation Board President Sharon Powell thanked not only those who attended the day’s events, but also numerous individuals who had played a role in bringing Century Park into existence.

Jazz & Wine Festival draws almost 350
The Jazz & Wine Festival at the Elms Resort & Spa Saturday drew a “nice crowd,” according to Downtown Excelsior Partnership Executive Director Keith Winge, but came nowhere near the size of the Missouri Wine Festival in July.
A total of 333 people bought tickets for the event, which was organized by DEP, but that’s less than half of the 700 who turned out in July.

Council alters law for red light cameras
The Excelsior Springs City Council voted 3-0 Monday night to change some parts of its ordinance governing the use of red light cameras along U.S. 69, but the changes won’t greatly affect the way violators are identified and ticketed.
Certainly, the alterations won’t be much comfort to those who call the lights an infringement on liberties.

Water bar, visitor center have grand opening
With the snip of a ribbon, the Hall of Waters officially began a new chapter Tuesday by celebrating the grand opening of a new visitor center in the building's historic water bar.
The visitor center quietly opened this summer as an operation of the Downtown Excelsior Partnership. But with the introduction recently of a new line of bottled water from the Excelsior Springs Bottling Company, dozens turned out Tuesday to help welcome the new addition.
