ES Area Cultural Guild looks ahead to Gatsby Days 2013

The Excelsior Springs Area Cultural Guild will meet next week to begin planning for the 2013 Great Gatsby Days celebration in Excelsior Springs.

The group, which sponsors the Gatsby event each April to celebrate the heyday of Excelsior Springs’ history in the early decades of the 20th century, will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, at The Artisan Gallery, 451 S. Thompson Ave.

Anyone who would like to become involved in helping to expand the Gatsby Days celebration is invited to attend this planning meeting and hear more about becoming a part of the cultural guild.

The Excelsior Springs Area Cultural Guild is a non-profit organization that encourages and promotes appreciation of the fine arts through education and participatory events. The group sponsors various arts programs promoting music, performing arts, visual arts, poetry/literature/writing, commercial design and other artistic endeavors.

“We work very hard to keep the youth of the communities in and around Excelsior Springs interested in the arts and able to appreciate everything the arts can offer,” explained ESACG spokesperson Marilyn Gerdes. “In addition the Cultural Guild gives out three youth art scholarships to those students continuing their education in the college of arts.”
