Wabash BBQ earns Kansas City metro-wide honors for entrepreneurship

With award-winning ribs and chicken, smoked meats, live blues bands and 16 years of service to the Excelsior Springs community, who would have thought that Wabash BBQ could have outdone themselves once again?

Apparently it was possible, as the stalwart of the Excelsior Springs restaurant scene stepped up to home plate at Kauffman Stadium this week to receive the Entrepreneur All Star award from the Kauffman Foundation on Tuesday, June 25, during Entrepreneur Day at the K.

Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce Director Bob Nance nominated the Wabash and its owners, Cheri McCullough and Mitch Dickey, to the Kauffman Foundation as “All Star Entrepreneurs” back in May and from there it was a grand slam.  The foundation reached out to Wabash and invited them for a night of tailgating, entertainment and an awards ceremony held at Kauffman Stadium Tuesday night.

McCullough and Dickey rounded up nearly 40 of their closest friends, chartered a bus and headed out to the stadium to receive their award entitled “Entrepreneurial All Star.”  There were 20 recipients that night lined up from home plate to first base and Excelsior Springs’ Wabash BBQ was one of them.

The Kauffman Foundation and KC SourceLink started the Entrepreneur Day at the K program last year, recognizing Kansas City metro area businesses for their work and giving them opportunities to network and meet with one another.
