As part of their their schoolwork, fifth graders at Westview Elementary School were asked to create a new building for Excelsior Springs.  The mock project asked that each student act as an architect and create a building design to submit to the city of Excelsior.  Students were asked to share where in the city limits their building would be erected and why the student chose the building site.

After finishing their artwork students then voted on the favorite from each class.  The following four students were voted to have created the best project meeting all four requirements of the assignment.

• Zack Zeller– created a library that he would like to construct near Price Chopper.  Zeller said he chose the location because it is big and the space is open so that patrons could have a clear view of the building.

• Samuel Deleon– an up-and-coming soccer player, created a soccer dome that he would like constructed in place of Waller Truck Co.  Deleon said that there is a lot of space at the location and that anyone coming to Excelsior Springs would be able to see it from the highway.

• Graci Kotalik– created a fun center entitled “The World in 1” to let people learn about the world in fun ways.  Kotalik would like to build her structure beside Walmart because they get a lot of business people there that could refer new customers to her location.

• Talen Chase – created a danger free fun zone for kids to have fun and play pretend war, Chase named his design, “Fun War.”  Part of Chase’s design included play arrows, swords and catapults made of foam so that no one would be injured during playtime.
