The Excelsior Springs Community Center Advisory Board has a new member.

The Excelsior Springs City Council approved the appointment of Gregory Broadbent to serve on the board through Sept. 30. As City Manager Molly McGovern stated in a Jan. 11 memo to city leaders, Broadbent succeeds Doug Richey. Richey, who serves in the Missouri House of Representatives, “asked to be removed” from the board, Mayor Sharon Powell said shortly before the vote.

“He just doesn’t have time,” Powell said. An Excelsior Springs resident who was first elected to the House in 2018 and represents the 39th District, Richey’s duties outside politics include serving as a clergy member and educator, his bio on the House website states.
