Excelsior Springs is throwing its support behind a potential new affordable housing project. On Sept. 19, the City Council approved a resolution during its regular meeting at the Hall of Waters for Springfield-based DHTC Developers LLC to apply to build as many as 40 homes for ages 55 and older in the vicinity of Tracy Avenue and U.S. Highway 69. The approval followed a presentation of almost 20 minutes by Tammi Creason, a DHTC partner who called herself “an Excelsior Springs local,” including question-and-answer time. If the application is approved, the homes would be two-bedroom, “cottage-style or villa-style” units, each with a one-vehicle garage, with monthly rent set at $600, according to Creason. The complex would have a similar look to one that DHTC developed for Nixa, she said.
