Clay County expands senior property tax freeze
Clay County seniors will now be protected from a larger share of rising property taxes after county officials approved a targeted update to the county’s senior tax relief program.The Clay County Commission recently approved an amendment to the county’s Senior Real Estate Property Tax Relief Program that expands which portions of a property tax bill can be frozen once a homeowner qualifies for the credit. Under the update, property tax levies tied to bonded debt obligations are now included in the program, increasing the amount of taxes eligible seniors are shielded from as rates rise.The change amends Clay County’s senior property tax ordinance, which was first adopted in 2023 and revised in 2024 after changes to state law.
