EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Parks and Recreation Department is getting a larger maintenance building. On May 2, the City Council approved Parks and Rec/Community Center Director Nate Williams’ request to buy a 60-by-64-foot building for $375,750. Per his April 27 memo to city leaders, Sourcewell of Minnesota will help the department make the purchase. The city had 10 days to buy the building for that amount, Williams said. “With construction right now, costs go up pretty quick,” he told city leaders, adding he would contact Sourcewell that night to place the order. The department and the Parks and Recreation Administrative Board earmarked $300,000 for a new facility in this year’s budget, Williams said. Also, $50,000 planned for buying a new truck will be used, he said. “This is over our original (budget) – what we thought would be enough,” Williams said. “And we can’t really get a truck right now anyway.” Williams str...
