The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred last week near Kearney. The victim was identified as Eric B. Starr, 44, of Excelsior Springs. Deputies responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash at 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 2 near N.E. 128th Street and Jesse James Farm Road. They located a man who had been ejected from a Ford F-150 truck. The man was deceased upon the deputies’ arrival. Traffic Safety Unit investigators determined the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed just before overturning multiple times. Additionally, Starr was not wearing a seat belt. The Sheriff’s Office is awaiting toxicology results to determine whether any impairment was involved. ...
