Cornerstone Elementary draws praise during tour

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – When Steve Houck began serving on the Board of Education in 2009, the need surfaced for building a new elementary school, he recalled. In 2021, Houck is seeing the 12-year-old vision come to fruition. Houck, whom Ray County sports fans also might know as the distance coach for Richmond’s varsity girls and boys track programs, attended the July 27 ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour for Cornerstone Elementary. “It’s beautiful. … State-of-the-art,” he said. “Cutting (edge) technology, in all aspects, so it should be great for the kids of Excelsior Springs.” About 40 people attended the event for the K-5 facility, Superintendent Travis Hux said.
