EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – An area football team can claim to have played in a Super Bowl. This time, however, it is not the Kansas City Chiefs and it is not an NFL Super Bowl. It is the Excelsior Springs Football Association’s sixth-grade team. The club fought its way to a league Super Bowl appearance, falling to Harrisonville 16-0. After finishing the regular season 5-1 with wins over Odessa, Clinton, Harrisonville, Warrensburg/Holden and Richmond, the team defeated Pleasant Hill 14-8 in the first round of the playoffs to set up its meeting with Harrisonville. The team led the league offensively, averaging 22.6 points per game.
