ESFA sixth-graders finish as league runners-up
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – An area football team can claim to have played in a Super Bowl.
This time, however, it is not the Kansas City Chiefs and it is not an NFL Super Bowl.
It is the Excelsior Springs Football Association’s sixth-grade team. The club fought its way to a league Super Bowl appearance, falling to Harrisonville 16-0. After finishing the regular season 5-1 with wins over Odessa, Clinton, Harrisonville, Warrensburg/Holden and Richmond, the team defeated Pleasant Hill 14-8 in the first round of the playoffs to set up its meeting with Harrisonville.
The team led the league offensively, averaging 22.6 points per game. It also led the league defensively, allowing an average of 9.3 points per game.
