Layton, Willis finish as best of MRVC West

PLEASANT HILL – When the Missouri River Valley Conference West Division track field championships finished May 6 at Pleasant Hill High School, Excelsior Springs could claim two individual champions. Junior Dalton Layton won the boys high jump by leaping 1.85 meters. Sophomore Kolt Willis was crowned the boys shot put champion with his throw of 44.15. Excelsior Springs also claimed five runner-up finishes – three in the boys competition, two in the girls meet. In the boys competition, sophomore Mason Wartner took second in the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 46.72 seconds. Senior Tyler Rumore was the 3,200 runner-up, finishing in 10:37.51. Junior Braxton Moffett cleared 3.66 for second in the pole vault. Senior Jacey Brewer took second in two girls events: the 1,600 and 3,200. Brewer completed the 1,600 in 5:54.13 – about 7 seconds behind the winner, Clinton first-year high schooler Leah Kenney...
