George L. Green, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully, at his home in Lawson, MO on May 14, 2022.  

George was born Oct. 2, 1937, to George L. and Helen (Marley) Green in Lawson, MO. He married Judith Lee Denton on June 20, 1958. Together, they had two children, Joel Scott and Shawn Denise.  

George was a lifelong resident of Lawson. He wore #11 and played “spinnerback” for the first Lawson High School football team in 1954, coached by Bob Shearer. George began working as an insurance agent in 1965 and started his own agency in 1969. He and his wife, Judy, served the Lawson community for 48 years as Shelter Insurance agents, retiring in December 2017. George was a Lawson city council member for many years. He was elected mayor in 1998 and held the office for five terms. George was an active member of the Lawson Assembly of God Church since 1943. He served as a deacon and was a dedicated Sunday School teacher for multiple years. He also greatly enjoyed playing Gospel music with his friends and family as a member of “The Devotions”. 

George was preceded in death by his parents, George L. and Helen Green; his sister, Patty Hale; and his grandson, Garrison Green.  

He is survived by his wife and companion of 64 years, Judy Green; his sister, Joyce (Green) Gentry; his son, Scott Green and wife Missy; his daughter, Shawn (Green) Anderson-Sen; his grandchildren, Shiloh Anderson, Gideon Anderson and wife Chelsea, Mattie (Green) Manns and husband Chance, and Dylan Sen; and great-grandchildren, Adelynn and Brecklynn Anderson and Laken and Taylen Manns.  

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022, and funeral services at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022, both at the Lawson Assembly of God Church in Lawson, MO. Burial will immediately follow at the Lawson Cemetery.
