Excelsior residents can weigh in on railway expansion

Public hearing scheduled Sept. 14
Residents with concerns about how Canadian Pacific’s acquisition of Kansas City Southern will affect the train traffic that passes through Excelsior Springs will have a chance to express those concerns next week.
As Railway-News reported Aug. 17 online, Canadian Pacific obtained Kansas City Southern in December 2021. The transaction, however, must be reviewed by the Surface Transportation Board (STB), which identifies itself on its website as “an independent federal agency that is charged with the economic regulation of various modes of surface transportation, primarily freight rail.” A completion of the STB’s review process is planned for “early 2023,” the Railway-News stated.
