Sewer rates to decrease in the new year

Excelsior Springs residents will see a decrease in their future sewer bills after a proposed rate decrease was approved by the city council during their first December meeting at the Hall of Waters. “Through our annual budgeting process, we review the water and sewer fees to make sure we have adequate funds to maintain the distribution and collection system and maintain healthy reserves in each,” said Public Works Director Chad Birdsong. “It has been determined that a rate reduction is warranted for the sewer fund at this time,” Birdsong said. The new rates will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2023. Currently, the base rate for residents that live inside city limits is $25.07, with a consumption rate of $11.40 per 1000 gallons. The newly approved base rate for these residents will now be $23, with the consumption rate being $11.28 per 1000 gallons.
