On Dec. 8, Excelsior Springs put the final touch on its historic varsity boys soccer season.

That night, the Tigers held their endof- season banquet in the high school commons area. Junior Mason Wartner was named Player of the Year. Wartner and sophomore Jake Zapata shared the Golden Boot Award for being the top scorers for a program that placed third at state in Class 2 for the second straight season.

In other awards news, sophomore Deagan Barber was named Most Improved Player. Brady Schoonover, a first-year high schooler, received the Newcomer of the Year Award. Junior Braedyn Sejkora received the Top 1 Award for his dedication and commitment to offseason workouts.

The awards followed recognition at the state, regional, district, metro area and Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division levels. Wartner and sophomore Kolin Kincaid received first-team all-state honors. Zapata was a second-team all-state selection. Senior Brendan Blackburn received honorable mention.

Wartner, Zapata, Kincaid and Blackburn also received first-team allregion honors, with Wartner chosen as Player of the Year for Class 2 Region 4, consisting of Districts 7 and 8. Coach Zac Ganzer was named Region 4 Coach of the Year.

In addition, Wartner, Zapata, Kincaid and Blackburn were first-team all-district selections. Seniors Zach Dimes, Braxton Moffett and Colby Mueller garnered second-team honors.

Zapata and Wartner were selected to the Kansas City All-Metro first team. They also were among six Tigers to receive all-conference nods, with Wartner and Kincaid making the first team; Blackburn, Mueller and Zapata being second-team selections; and Moffett receiving allconference honorable mention.
