Tigers fall to Northmen; triangular cut short by rain

Mason Danner “deserved a better fate” when Excelsior Springs faced Oak Park April 15 as part of a rain-shortened triangular at Tiger Stadium, according to Tigers coach Aaron Holst. Danner was the starting pitcher in Excelsior Springs’ 15-3 loss to the Northmen. The senior went 5 1/ 3 innings against the Kanas City-based program. Unofficially, he yielded 11 hits, seven runs and three walks, with two wild pitches. He also struck out four. Through the first five innings, he held Oak Park to five runs. “I should have shut him down after the fifth inning, a quality 80-pitch effort,” Holst stated via text message. “He requested the opportunity to go back out in the sixth and I allowed him to do it, instead of going to the bullpen.
