Commission continues court fight to prevent full audit by state auditor ‘

JEFFERSON CITY – Clay County Clerk Megan Thompson’s office received a rating of “good” from Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway’s office. The auditor’s report is the first of several that will be released as part of the citizenmandated audit of Clay County. The public petitioned to have a state audit that not only covers where money is being spent, but also whether legal protocols are being followed. The main reason for the audit centers on public dissatisfaction with how the Clay County Commission has operated for the past several years, which has raised questions regarding spending and propriety. Several offices are under review for the overall county audit. “Citizens requested my office take a comprehensive look at county operations in an effort to hold their government accountable.
