Excelsior Springs varsity softball coach Megan Gilbertson and her Tigers were looking to extend their season Wednesday.That night, the Tigers played Benton of St. Joseph at Heritage Park in St. Joseph in the Class 3 District 8 Tournament, with the winner to play top-seeded Chillicothe in the semifinals of the single-elimination postseason competition Thursday.Excelsior Springs entered districts having won three of its last four regularseason games. The girls went 2-1 last week, scoring 41 total runs, batting .451 and slugging 13 extra-base hits, including five home runs.Cranking out 17 hits, the Tigers routed Raytown South 20-0 Oct. 7 at Ray South. Those powered Excelsior Springs to victory including Josie Casler and Haylee Ray, who each homered.
