Allen O’Dell, 97, of Excelsior Springs died peacefully Nov. 26, 2024. His final days were spent in his home, surrounded by friends and family.

Born July 24, 1927, in the Fishing River Township of Ray County to Junior and Eunice (Wilson) O’Dell, Allen was the oldest of four children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Flossie Walters.

Allen is survived by his children, Patrick (Jacquelyn) O’Dell of Tebbetts and Carrie O’Dell (Jeff Boyle) of Kansas City. He also leaves four grandchildren, Nicholas (Jennifer) O’Dell of Garden City, Mich., Kevin O’Dell of Columbia, Matthew Penland of Baytown, Texas, and Megan O’Dell of Des Moines, Iowa; and four great-granddaughters.

Other survivors include his brother, Andrew O’Dell of Excelsior Springs; his little sister, Alma Grace Vick of Gladstone; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services and burial will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at North New Garden Primitive Baptist Church, located at 13030 Highway O, Excelsior Springs. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m.

service, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Following the burial, the family invites all to join them at the American Legion Post (208 Veterans Memorial Drive, Excelsior Springs) for lunch and the sharing of memories.
