Orrick looks to establish youth football teams
Through some divine guidance, two 8-man youth football teams are forming in Orrick.
Led by Drew Schoeneck, plans are underway to form one team for grades 3-4 and another for grades 5-6.
“If everything continues to go right, we’ll have a cheer squad for each,” said Schoeneck, who’ll also serve as a coach.
Registration for the two teams will conclude Aug. 1, with plans for practices to start that day, Schoeneck said.
“You have to show up Aug. 1, paid in full, with a physical,” he said.
The teams within the youth program will play a sevengame season, slated to start in September and conclude in October. Pending approval from the new superintendent of the Orrick R-XI School District, the youngsters will play their home games at Simmons Field, where Orrick’s junior high and high school 8-man teams play, Schoeneck said.
“We should, as of right now, be hosting three home games,” he said June 12.
