Awareness month highlights statistics, prevention strategies
Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month, recognized nationwide each September, brings attention to an issue that affects millions of families each year. Excelsior Springs Hospital’s Senior Life Solutions (SLS) program and The Jason Foundation are among the organizations working to raise awareness, spread education and encourage conversations that can help save lives.The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention reports an average of 135 people die by suicide every day, according to SLS Program Director Carmen Smith. In 2022 alone, an estimated 1.6 million suicide attempts were made.
