Local youth pastor arrested in child sex-abuse investigation
A role meant to guide children in faith is now at the center of a criminal investigation after an associate youth pastor at Excelsior Springs Baptist Church was arrested on accusations of abusing that trust.Excelsior Springs resident Donald Aaron Axtell, 37, is facing two felony charges, including second-degree statutory rape and possession of child pornography. He is also charged with one misdemeanor count of furnishing or attempting to furnish pornographic material to a minor.Axtell recently appeared before Seventh Judicial Circuit Court Judge Karen Krauser for his initial arraignment, where the court ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim. Axtell, who was served with a Clay County arrest warrant on Nov. 14, is not currently represented by an attorney after the Missouri State Public Defender’s Office determined he does not qualify as indigent.Axtell’s next appearance in the case is a bond-reduction hearing ...
