Workshop examines digital risks to youth

The opening session of Beacon Mental Health’s winter workshop series challenged families to examine the role of social media in daily youth life, presenting new research on notifications, algorithms and mental health, before the subsequent two sessions expanded on early brain development and prevention.Beacon is offering a threepart virtual series for parents and caregivers throughout December. Each session provides education on issues affecting youth well-being and offers practical tools families can use at home. The recent workshop, A Dangerous Intersection: Social Media, Substance Use and Mental Health marked the first event in the sequence.The series was developed after strong participation in Beacon Mental Health Parent Up’s fall workshops, which showed families wanted ongoing education and support.
