NICK OF TIME Haylee Ray beat the clock in winning the 140-pound girls title at The Battle at the Katy Trail.Ray, an Excelsior Springs sophomore, pinned North Calloway’s Elka Endres in 5 minutes, 49 seconds in the championship match of the tournament, held Dec. 19-20 in Sedalia. A regulation high school match runs 6 minutes, divided into three 2-minute periods.Endres was among four opponents Ray defeated at Katy Trail. After opening with a bye, she pinned Centralia’s Harper Mahan in 46 seconds, then won two straight matches by major decision.Ray was one of two top-five finishers for the Excelsior Springs girls, who tied El Dorado Springs for eighth in the team standings with 147 points.
