Badge pinning marks milestone for Excelsior Springs firefighters

For three Excelsior Springs firefighters, earning a badge represented the culmination of a year defined by training, growth and accountability and the beginning of a deeper responsibility to the community they serve.The Excelsior Springs Fire Department (ESFD) recently held a formal badge pinning ceremony recognizing Firefighter and Paramedic Camden Dickey, Firefighter and EMT Joseph Cherco and Firefighter and EMT Emily Rice following the successful completion of their probationary periods. While the ceremony itself is steeped in tradition, ESFD Deputy Fire Chief Camron White emphasized it marks a critical transition from trainee to sworn firefighter.Upon completing probation, firefighters first receive a new helmet shield replacing their probationary designation, a step that typically occurs in a more casual setting.
