Cooper Collins’ senior wrestling season nearly ended the same way his first high school season had.Collins, who’ll graduate in May from Excelsior Springs, placed second in the 144-pound division at the Class 2 state boys tournament, held Feb. 25-26 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. His tournament run ended with a loss by a 5-4 decision to Seneca’s Brant Laughlin in the title match.“He left it all on the mat,” Excelsior Springs boys coach Cody Beck stated Feb. 28 via email. “He made his way to the state title match in dominating fashion, with two pins and a technical fall.”As Beck pointed out, Collins was a four-time state qualifier.
