Michael Davis, 79, of Excelsior Springs passed away Nov. 17, 2025, at his home.
A graveside service was scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville.
Mr. Davis was born Nov. 18, 1945, in Kansas City to Bernard and Helen Davis, the eldest of three sons. During his youth, his love of the outdoors and hunting flourished.
Michael graduated in 1963 from William Chrisman High School in Independence.
After graduating, Michael enlisted in the U.S. Army for a three-year term of service from April 1965 to April 1968. He was stationed in Okinawa, an island of Japan, at the missile sites, as well as Fort Riley, Kan.
Michael was united in marriage to Bernita (Shultz) on Nov. 22, 1965.
Michael’s professional career was as a mechanic, a trade he acquired in the service. He retired from the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, where he worked from 1984 until 2008.
In his free time, Michael enjoyed woodworking, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. He also was actively involved with his faith, being a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Michael is survived by his wife, Bernita. His passing occurred just shy of their 60th anniversary. Other survivors include their children, Jerry Davis of Red Bluff, Calif.; Treva Shouse (Randy) of Wood Heights; Jason Davis (Amber) of Richmond; and Rachel Brown (Brian) of Warrensburg.
He also is survived by his grandchildren: Ryan (Haley) Danner of Excelsior Springs; Lance (RayAnne) Shouse of Excelsior Springs; Kamryn (Spence) of Olathe, Kan.; Reese Brown of Warrensburg; and William Davis and Dakota Davis of Richmond. In addition, he leaves behind his great-grandchildren: Ryder Danner, Claydon Vetter, Wrenley Vetter, Jayden Irvine, Adam Casey and Sylas Miller.
