Raymond Lynn Hurt Jr. of Kansas City passed away Feb. 1, 2024, at Valley Manor in Excelsior Springs from complications of Parkinson’s disease.
Mr. Hurt was born Jan. 27, 1934, in Columbia to Raymond Lynn Hurt Sr. and Etta Yvonne McCullough.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Blackwell; and both parents.
Mr. Hurt graduated in 1952 from Excelsior Springs High School and attended college in Marshall, later studying at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music.
He was active in the Boy Scouts and served as choir director at Woods Memorial Christian Church for 15 years.
He retired in 1984 from The Kansas City Star after 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Joyce Elaine (Siegel) Hurt; sons, Jeffery Lynn Hurt and Brent David Hurt of Kansas City and New York, respectively; granddaughter, Taylor Hurt, also of New York; and niece, Linda (Bl...
