Big innings hurt Tigers in weekend losses
RAYTOWN – Allowing big innings has sent the Tigers into a losing skid.
After opening the varsity baseball season with a win over Mexico, Excelsior Springs had lost five straight through Tuesday, including three games this past weekend.
The Tigers had planned to open the weekend March 26 by hosting Grove, Oklahoma, but wet field conditions forced the teams to travel that day to Raytown High School, where they played on Raytown’s synthetic turf field. Excelsior Springs fell to the Ridgerunners 13-5.
Sophomore Mason Danner started on the mound for the Tigers, going four innings, giving up three runs on three hits, walking three and striking out two. The Ridgerunners scored a run in the first and two in the second off Danner before he settled down to hold them scoreless in the third and fourth innings.
