Austin Collins is ending his high school tennis career at a state tournament.As The Standard reported May 9, Collins qualified for the Class 1 state singles tournament. At press time, tournament play was set to get underway Thursday with sectional and quarterfinal matches. Collins, who’s graduating this week from Excelsior Springs, was scheduled to face Ridge Stagner of St. Joseph Benton in sectionals.The semifinal and title matches are slated for Friday. The Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield is hosting all tournament rounds.Collins qualified for state by placing second in the singles and doubles portion of the Class 1 District 7 Tournament, held May 2 at Excelsior Springs.In other district results, Excelsior Springs lost 5-4 to Harrisonville May 6 at Harrisonville City Park in the duals portion of the tournament.
