ES boys tumble to Lexington before first tourney of season
Excelsior Springs was still seeking its first win this season in varsity boys basketball entering Wednesday night’s meeting with Oak Grove.The Tigers were 0-3 as they prepared to face the Panthers in the Husker Classic, hosted by Lafayette County of Higginsville. Those losses included a 78-40 defeat Dec. 3 at Lexington.The Minutemen took control early, opening with an 8-2 run. They led 14-6 after one quarter.Excelsior Springs got within five (14-9) early in the second quarter, as sophomore guard Owen O’Dell hit a three-point shot. Lexington, however, outscored Excelsior Springs 29-13 for the quarter.The Minutemen continued pulling away in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 23-15 to lead 66-34 entering the final quarter.
