ES golfers open postseason
Landon Biermann and his Excelsior Springs teammates were looking to keep their varsity boys golf season going Wednesday.The Tigers began their postseason that day by playing in the Class 3 District 4 Tournament at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond, hoping to qualify for state. The Tigers also played there May 2 in the Richmond Invitational, finishing sixth in the team standings by shooting a 349 – seven strokes ahead of seventh-place Trenton.Biermann, who graduates this month, led the team by shooting an 81 (+10) for his 18-hole, par-71 round under rainy conditions. He placed in a three-way tie for 11th and was the lone Excelsior Springs golfer to finish in the top 25, tournament records state.The invitational capped a week that, coincidentally, had begun with a tournament – the Kearney Invitational.
