Landon Biermann and his Excelsior Springs teammates were looking to keep their varsity boys golf season going Wednesday.The Tigers began their postseason that day by playing in the Class 3 District 4 Tournament at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond, hoping to qualify for state. Look for additional coverage May 16.It was Excelsior Springs’ second appearance at Shirkey in less than a week. The Tigers also played there May 2 in the Richmond Invitational, finishing sixth in the team standings by shooting a 349 – seven strokes ahead of seventh-place Trenton.Biermann, who graduates this month, led the team by shooting an 81 (+10) for his 18-hole, par-71 round under rainy conditions. He placed in a three-way tie for 11th and was the lone Excelsior Springs golfer to finish in the top 25, tournament records state.The invitational capped a week that, coincidentally, had begun with a tournament – the Kearney Invitational.
