Excelsior Springs netters find winning ways
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers are rolling in varsity boys tennis as the postseason approaches.
Entering the Missouri River Valley Conference Tournament, slated for Wednesday, the Tigers had won three of four duals. One of those wins was an 8-1 April 27 crushing of visiting Clinton in an MRVC West meeting.
The No. 1 doubles combination of senior Caleb Hatfield and sophomore Joshua Oldham won 8-5. Seniors Antonio Martinez and Slade Tackett won their No. 2 doubles match, also 8-5. No. 3 doubles team of sophomores Lee Mueller and Carter Pitts breezed to an 8-1 win.
Hatfield came up short in No. 1 singles, falling 9-7. Martinez won the No. 2 singles match 8-5. Oldham picked up an 8-3 victory in the third spot, with Tackett winning the No. 4 singles match 8-3. Mueller won the No. 5 match 8-3. Pitts won the No. 6 match 8-2.
