Tigers prep for district track meet
Excelsior Springs varsity coach Jonah Albertson and his Tigers will look to keep their track and field season going Saturday.The Tigers will compete that day at the Class 4 District 8 meet in Kansas City, hosted by Staley High School. The top four finishers in each event will advance to sectional competition, slated for May 24 at Blue Springs. The top four placers in each event at sectionals will then qualify for the Class 4 state meet, scheduled for May 3031 at Jefferson City.Excelsior Springs begins its run toward state after participating in the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division meet May 8 at Raytown South. Junior Kinley Rogers led the Excelsior Springs girls, winning the shot put and discus. She threw 11.69 meters to take the shot put and 38.39 to win the discus.Rogers helped the Excelsior Springs girls finish fifth in the team standings with 61 points.
