Investigation finds drowning victim had cardiac incident

An investigation has determined that a Kansas City man who drowned in the lake at Rocky Hollow Park last week suffered some type of cardiac incident prior to falling in the water.

The body of Joe T. Holt, 78, was spotted in the lake, just west of Excelsior Springs, on Tuesday evening, June 17. Clay County authorities and local EMS responded to the scene shortly after 6 p.m. and retrieved his body from the water. The Jackson County Medical Examiner took possession of the body to conduct an autopsy.

With no reason to believe any suspicious circumstances surround the man’s death, Clay County has now officially closed their case on the matter.

Holt, who has relatives with Excelsior Springs connections, was reportedly fishing at Rocky Hollow when the incident occurred.
