PRIDE sponsors and businesses—both members and non-members of the Excelsior Springs Area Chamber of Commerce—are invited to join in the kick-off for the annual PRIDE celebration next week.
An After Hours reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at The Elms Hotel & Spa, 401 Regent Ave. The evening will feature light snacks, a cash bar and door prizes donated by local businesses. Casual attire is suggested.
The annual event ushers in PRIDE season, an eight-week celebration of what makes Excelsior Springs unique. As part of this event, The Excelsior Springs Standard—which is sponsoring the After Hours along with the chamber and the Elms—will also present two PRIDE awards.
Typically these awards go to one organization and one individual each year. For 2013, however, two outstanding candidates were nominated—both of them organizations and both highly deserving of recognition.
The NJROTC unit at the Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center and ES First are both being honored with PRIDE awards for their consistent and significant support for the Excelsior Springs community.
You can learn more about these two honorees, along with all of our PRIDE sponsors, in a series of special publications, the first of which will make its debut next week in conjunction with PRIDE After Hours. The first PRIDE publication will be included in the Town & Country Leader next week, and three additional sections will follow every other week through the beginning of October. Each section will feature articles about the PRIDE winners and various PRIDE sponsors and participants.
Another annual event will also mark the PRIDE season—a community service project that will take place on a Saturday morning yet to be determined. Watch The Standard and PRIDE for more details as they become available.
