Ag sector people at all levels unite to feed hungry
SEDALIA – A couple of dozen youngsters and adults at the Missouri State Fair played the role of assembly line workers.
They worked next to a conveyer belt to place boxes of cereal, jars of peanut butter and cans of vegetables – and assorted other food items – into large boxes sent down the line to pack for hungry children statewide.
For several days at the Missouri State Fair, Feeding Missouri volunteers loaded the boxes, 500 on Aug. 17 alone. By Aug. 19, they had helped to accumulate more than 203,000 meals on the way to a final tally of 205,883 meals, a spokeswoman at the event stated.
The work done at the state fair represented only part of the effort by members of the state’s agricultural community to feed fellow Missourians. On Sept. 9, the Missouri Department of Agriculture announced the Missouri Farmers Care Foundation had raised enough through donations to provide 2,015,088 meals to help feed hungry children across the state through the 2021 D...
