Excelsior Springs cross country program sends five to state
LEE’S SUMMIT – Five Excelsior Springs cross country runners are slated for a weekend road trip to Columbia.
Jacey Brewer, Macey Chaney, Mason Wartner, Tyler Rumore and Gavin Wilmes qualified for Class 4 state competition, slated for Friday at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course. They did so by placing among the top 30 Oct. 30 at District 4 competition in Lee’s Summit. Per Missouri State High School Activities Association rules, the district’s top four teams and top 30 individuals in the girls and boys races, counting those on team qualifiers, advanced.
Brewer and Chaney, both seniors, qualified by placing 12th and 24th, respectively, in the girls race. Brewer ran the 3.1-mile race in 22 minutes, 44.6 seconds. Chaney finished in 23:14.5.
“After all of the hard work I have put in this season, the feeling of qualifying for state was overwhelming,” Chaney said.
