12-year-old boy brings down 16-point, prize-winning buck

RICHMOND – Noah Edwards, 12, Richmond, brought down a 16-point buck in Saline County to win the Youth Deer Hunt, sponsored by Banner Coulson Chevrolet, Higginsville. Getting the deer took preparation and a bit of luck “At first, we were in a blind,” Noah said. “Then, we were in this … (other) location. A couple of trees were around us, with this opening to a cornfield.” Good hunters know deer like cornfields for purposes that include bedding and grazing. “It was my first case of ‘the shakes,’” Noah said. “We saw a doe come through and then it was a giant that came out. You can get scared whenever there’s a giant in front of you.” Shaky or not, Noah took aim and remained steady enough to hit the target.
