ES boys grapplers win dual; produce two tourney champs
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – After jumping out to a commanding lead, the Tigers had to hold on to win their first competition of 2022.
The Tigers opened their 40-39 Jan. 6 dual road win over Harrisonville with a victory by forfeit at 113 pounds. Freshman Ryne Marcum got Excelsior Springs’ first win on the mat, defeating Chris Sullivan by a 13-1 major decision at 120.
Sophomore Micah Danner won by fall in 29 seconds over Darion Polk at 126. The Tigers picked up another win by forfeit at 132 before freshman Dawson Claypole fell to Nick Ripperger at 138 in a 4-1 decision.
Senior Jonah Cowden defeated Brandon Phillips with a second-period fall. Senior Ayden Dolt then pinned Casen Hayes in 50 seconds. The Tigers were open at 160 and 170.
