EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers are off to a winning start in 2022 in varsity girls basketball. After dropping its last two games of 2021, Excelsior Springs won two of its first three to start the new year. The girls were 5-6 overall entering Thursday’s road meeting with Bishop LeBlond of St. Joseph. The club opened Jan. 4 with a 39-25 home win over Winnetonka. The Griffins scored the opening bucket, but that was all they would score for the first half. The Tigers led 7-2 after one quarter and 12-2 at halftime. Both teams struggled to score early in the second half. Excelsior Springs broke the drought with two buckets midway through the third quarter. The Griffins answered quickly and went on a small run, but Excelsior Springs outscored Winnetonka 14-10 for the quarter to lead 26-12 entering the final quarter.
