Excelsior Springs boys edge Panthers, fall to Spartans in districts
OAK GROVE – This season, Excelsior Springs did something the Tigers had not done since 2017: They won a district boys basketball game.
Excelsior Springs ended the drought Feb. 26 with a 50-47 win over Oak Grove, the host school for the Class 4 District 15 Tournament. The Tigers then fell 72-37 March 1 to top-seeded and eventual district champion Richmond.
Junior Rakai Gantt dropped in two free throws and junior Colson Moore drained a three-pointer from the right wing to put the Tigers up 5-0 just over two minutes into their win over Oak Grove. The Panthers answered with back-to-back buckets to pull within one and went on to outscore the Tigers 10-4 the remainder of the quarter to lead 14-9 at quarter’s end.
