EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The latest Excelsior Springs Board of Education is in place.

Kalyn Goode and Tray Harkins took the oath April 11 at the Support Services Center to begin serving new terms. They won re-election as the top two vote recipients among three candidates in the April 5 elections. Harkins received 797 votes, followed by Goode with 727. The other candidate, Josh Brown, received 525 votes.

The board chose officers, naming Harkins president.

“Congratulations, sir – or condolences, however you want to look at it,” Superintendent Travis Hux joked after Harkins’ approval.

Troy Snelling is vice president; Hux, treasurer; and Lisa Shelton, secretary.

In addition, board members agreed Darren McKown would remain their Missouri School Boards’ Association delegate. Teacher and coach Steve Houck is the alternate delegate.

A delegate’s duties include attending the MSBA’s yearly conference. This year’s event is slated for Nov. 3-6 at the Kansas City Convention Center.
