P&R Board eyes buying land to expand

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Rainbow Splash Park could expand in 2023, Parks and Recreation and Community Center Director Nate Williams told city leaders June 6 at the Hall of Waters. Williams mentioned that possibility shortly before the City Council approved a 12-month lease agreement with the First United Methodist Church for the city to handle upkeep on a parcel of property between the church and park. There have been talks between his department and the Parks and Recreation Board about buying the land, but they have agreed to wait until next year before pursuing a deal, he said. “With the maintenance building you just approved a couple meetings ago, we want to just kind of hold off on really digging into that,” Williams said.
