ES boys hoopsters 1-2 on the road
The Tigers stepped outside their division last week in varsity boys basketball.
And for one game, they stepped outside of western Missouri.
Excelsior Springs played Kansas City East, an Interscholastic League school; St. Joseph Central, a Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Red Division program; and Greenwood Laboratory School, a Springfield-based school. The Tigers went 1-2 in their ventures outside the Suburban Conference-Blue Division, dominating East 72-46 Jan. 17 at the Interscholastic League Fieldhouse, then falling to St. Joe Central 48-35 Jan. 20 at Central and falling to Greenwood 48-37 Jan. 21 at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar.
Excelsior Springs took control of East by jumping out to an 11-2 lead. The Bears fought to keep it close, getting within four (13-9) before the Tigers staged a 10-2 run to close the first quarter leading 23-11.
The Tigers outscored the Bears 2315 the second quarter to lead 46-26 at halftime.
